Geico Pet Insurance Review & Pricing (2024)

Written by Brenda Woods Updated 12/03/2024

Geico is a reputable insurance provider known for auto, homeowners, and renters insurance, but did you know it also offers pet insurance? It partners with Embrace, a leading provider on our list of best pet insurance companies, to provide this coverage. It’s common practice for big insurers to outsource their pet insurance to more pet-focused companies.

We analyzed Geico’s pet insurance coverage, cost, and customer reviews to see what pet parents can expect from the insurer. Because Geico’s pet insurance is through Embrace, this review will focus on its plan options and customer experiences.

Our Rating for Geico

We did an in-depth review of Geico’s pet insurance through Embrace, analyzing the company’s sample policy, website, and customer reviews. We scored Embrace 93.5 out of 100 based on how it compares to competitors in areas such as cost, coverage, exclusions, customer service, and overall reputation.

Embrace offers coverage for many conditions related to accidents and illnesses, has a wellness coverage option for routine care, and offers multiple discounts. Its coverage exclusions are comparable to those of other pet insurers, and it offers multiple deductible options and ways to customize your monthly premium. We also like that the company has been in operation since 2006, meaning it’s well-established in the pet insurance industry.

However, its rates are more expensive than other companies.

Geico Pet Insurance Pricing

Pet insurance pricing is based on your location plus your pet’s age, breed, gender, and species. Metropolitan areas typically have higher premiums, as do senior pets, breeds prone to health conditions, male pets, and dogs. Geico customers who get pet insurance through Embrace have multiple ways to customize their monthly premiums by adjusting their annual coverage limit, deductible, and reimbursement rate.

Customers can choose from the following options:

  • Annual deductible: $100, $250, $500, $750, $1,000
  • Annual limit: $5,000, $8,000, $10,000, $15,000, unlimited
  • Reimbursement percentage: 70%, 80%, 90%

The unlimited coverage option is attractive to many pet owners, as is the 90% reimbursement rate option and low deductible choices.

How Do Customers View Geico Pet Insurance?

Geico has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, but we chose to evaluate Embrace’s customer satisfaction to give you the best impression of the company your pet’s coverage will be through. Embrace also has an A+ BBB rating and a customer rating of 3.44 out of 5 stars.

We read more than 100 customer reviews from the past year and found that the most common complaints were regarding claims being labeled as preexisting and therefore denied, as well as slow reimbursement wait times. Other customers reported positive experiences with Embrace, citing great customer service.

“Embrace Pet Insurance has wonderful coverage for great rates, and terrific customer service! Glad I found it.”

Yael G., submitted on June 7, 2022

“Like many insurers, they will bend every word and phrase in the insurance agreement to their benefit in order to deny coverage, and they have provisions in their policy that are one-sided and irrational to the point of absurdity. Then they’ll lay on the fake sympathy when they tell you how disappointed they are that they can’t cover your claim.”

Andrew H., submitted on Oct. 21, 2022

“They are everything they claim to be. I have a policy I can rely on to understand all costs and no hidden fees. It’s refreshing to find a company, any company that is honest and clear. In addition the support team is AAAAAA. We made an excellent choice when we decided to go with Embrace.”

Lonnee S., submitted on June 13, 2022

“Embrace tries to put claims [in an] infinite loop by claiming not getting records. Communication is poor and pestering with auto-replies to bug my veterinarian for records. My veterinarian submits records, and guess what? Embrace claims they were never submitted, and the process keeps happening. Over, over and over again to void the claim and coverage.”

Austin H., submitted on Feb, 6, 2023

Is Geico Pet Insurance Worth it?

Customers who purchase an Embrace pet insurance plan through Geico can save money through Embrace’s multiple discounts as well as Geico’s Annual Pay discount. We also recommend Lemonade, Spot, or Healthy Paws if Embrace doesn’t fit your budget and needs.

We encourage doing thorough research before enrolling in a pet health insurance plan with any provider. Review each company’s coverage and exclusions carefully, and always get a quote before signing up.
