Elevate Home Warranty Review (2021)

A home warranty is a renewable service contract that covers unexpected repairs due to normal wear and tear. It provides financial protection when a covered home system or appliance breaks down or stops working. But not all plans are built the same—while some home warranty policies may exclusively cover appliances or systems, others provide comprehensive coverage for both types of items. Keep reading this Elevate Home Warranty review to learn about this company’s plans, coverage, and pricing, and determine if Elevate is right for you.

*Elevation Upgrade: This feature unlocks items within certain systems and appliances that are otherwise excluded from receiving coverage. These include parts in your plumbing, heating system, water heater, dishwasher, oven, range, cooktop, microwave, smoke detector, trash compactor, air conditioner, refrigerator, and electrical system.

The Elevation Upgrade is automatically included in the Elevated, Elevated Plus, and Totally Elevated plans, but for just $75, you can add it to the Basic plan to increase its coverage scope.

**No-Fault Upgrade: Most home warranty policies only cover repairs on items that incur damages from normal wear and tear. By purchasing Elevate Home Warranty’s No-Fault Upgrade, you can extend coverage for failures from mismatched systems, poor installation, permit fees, code violations, crane costs, and haul-away service.

Coverage Specifics

Every system and appliance in your home is made up of several different components that are vulnerable to faults. Home warranty policies may not cover the repair and replacement of all parts, so it’s important that you read your Elevate sample contract to determine which components are actually covered.

Here’s a brief overview of what’s excluded from Elevate Home Warranty’s coverage. Remember: by purchasing the Elevation Upgrade, you may be able to lift the restrictions on several of these barred items.

Re-Key Service

Elevate Home Warranty is responsible for six keyholes and will provide up to four copies of a new key. However, Elevate will not cover picking locks or replace doors, door knobs, or handles.

Kitchen Appliances

Elevate will provide coverage for the parts responsible for the proper functioning of the dishwasher, oven/range/cooktop, built-in microwave, instant hot water dispensers, garbage disposal, and trash compactor. Racks, rollers, baskets, knobs, dials, door glass, lights, handles, and meat probe assemblies are excluded from coverage.

Central Vacuum System

Major parts of the central vacuum system are covered, except for hoses, vacuum attachments, detachable accessories, ductwork, or parts encased in concrete.

Home warranty companies abide by certain conditions when it comes to determining whether or not a repair or replacement will be approved.

Here’s a general overview of Elevate Home Warranty’s limitation of liability:

  • They will not cover repairs or replacement due to fire, freezing, flooding, lightning, war, riots, accidents, improper repair, failure to conduct routine maintenance, neglect, cosmetic defects, or malfunctions resulting from rust or corrosion.
  • They will only be responsible for repair on items present within your property. They will not service shared equipment present in common areas of mobile home parks or condominiums.
  • They will not be responsible for secondary damages.
  • They will not perform services that involve toxic materials or substances.
  • They won’t cover items that are currently under a manufacturer’s warranty.

Elevate Home Warranty Pricing

Elevate Home Warranty plans cover single-family homes, multi-family homes, and newly constructed homes. The pricing of each plan will change based on your property type, the coverage plan you select, and how many add-ons you include in your plan.

Elevate plans for an average single-family home range between $300–$500. Note: you will be charged a $150 fee for non-real estate transactions. If you are purchasing a plan as part of the closing process, you will not have to pay this fee. If you have a duplex, triplex, or fourplex, you can expect to pay a couple of hundred dollars more for each plan.

Here’s a cost breakdown based on plan and property type.

Cost Breakdown

Plans Single-Family Home/Condo/Townhome Multi-Family Homes
Plans Single-Family Home/Condo/Townhome Multi-Family Homes
Standard Buyer Coverage $300 Duplex: $575 Triplex: $695 Fourplex: $895
Elevated Plan $400 Duplex: $500 Triplex: $600 Fourplex: $700
Elevated Plus Plan $450 Duplex: $600 Triplex: $750 Fourplex: $900
Totally Elevated Plan $500 Duplex: $700 Triplex: $900 Fourplex: $1,100

If you own a newly constructed home, you’ll only be eligible for Standard Coverage. Here are the prices for new-construction homes.

New-Construction Home Prices

Standard Coverage for New Construction Price
Standard Coverage for New Construction Price
Single-Family Home $525
Condo/Townhome/Mobile Home $500

Elevate Home Warranty charges a $59 service fee for each claim. This amount is much lower than the industry average of $75–$125. You will have to pay the service fee before any repairs can begin. Elevate Home Warranty advises you to make sure you request the right service trade type depending on your problem, since dispatching another trade contractor later will require you to pay the service fee again.

Additionally, if your home is located outside the coverage areas, you’ll have to pay an additional service fee of $25.

All home warranty companies cover repairs up to a certain dollar amount per term for the repair or replacement of a system or appliance.

Here’s what Elevate Home Warranty’s coverage limits look like:

How to Make a Claim with Elevate Home Warranty

To make a claim, call Elevate at 855-349-8824 or initiate a service request online.

Elevate Home Warranty accepts claims requests 24/7. After processing your request, they will have a local service technician contact you to set up a mutually convenient time to address the issue.

In most cases, Elevate will assign you a service contractor, but if a technician isn’t available, they may authorize you to work with your own independent contractor. Note: make sure you get their approval first, otherwise, you won’t be reimbursed for the service.

All services performed are under a 30-day warranty.

Elevate also expedites services for emergency situations, which include:

  • Plumbing failure resulting in a significant amount of flooding
  • Heating and cooling units completely failing during extreme weather conditions, making the interior of the home below 45 degrees or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • If the covered malfunction poses an imminent danger to the health and safety of the residents in your home
  • If the malfunction is currently damaging your house

If you choose to expedite a non-emergency service request, you will be responsible to pay any overtime or after-hour fees out of pocket.

Elevate Home Warranty Reviews

Elevate Home Warranty is a Better Business Bureau (BBB)-accredited business with a letter grade rating of A. Though there aren’t very many reviews available online, there are some positive reviews that exist detailing the company’s fast claims process, highly efficient contractors, and knowledgeable customer service team.

Here are a few customer testimonials from Google reviews, where it earned 4.5 out of 5 based on 369 ratings:

Kade P. said:

They are so helpful. They answered all my questions and got the right person out to fix a couple different issues. They were good companies they work with. I would recommend them anytime. I am going to sign up for another year of protection as well. They are amazing.

Melissa S. said:

I had a brand-new washing machine lay down for the second year in a row. Elevate Home Warranty had initially wanted to go through regular repair channels, which had taken over 5 weeks the last time it happened. With two grandchildren, my son, and his wife living with me, we couldn’t be without a washer again. I purchased one, then surprisingly was refunded the full replacement cost of the original machine—without asking! I simply told them I was replacing it, and after the fact received a check. Yes, I will be staying with Elevate.

Lydia R. said:

We’ve experienced nothing but great customer service anytime we’ve had to call Elevate. They’re quick and prompt with any claims we’ve had to open. We have continued our service for 3 years now and are very happy customers!!

Our Conclusion

The This Old House Reviews Team gives Elevate Home Warranty a 8.8/10 and believes Elevate is among the best home warranty companies on the market today.

Elevate Home Warranty offers four plans ranging between $300–$500 per year, which is in line with the industry average of $300–$600 per year. This price is an absolute steal, considering that their most exhaustive package covers an astounding 42 systems, appliances, and services. Their coverage caps aren’t too shabby, either, with expensive items like swimming pools, refrigerators, and central heating systems covered up to $1000–$2000.

Another unique feature of Elevate Home Warranty is its $59 service fee, which is much lower than the industry average of $75–$125. Our team also likes that Elevate provides coverage for systems and appliances with undetectable pre-existing conditions, which is quite rare in the home warranty industry.

While their additional coverage selection is small, it has some pretty compelling choices like its No-Fault Upgrade and the Elevation Upgrade that essentially enables homeowners to open up their chosen plan to cover even more restricted parts.

Although Elevate Home Warranty offers some of the best home warranty plans, the company is only available in Utah, making it out of reach for many U.S. residents.

Our Preferred Provider: Choice Home Warranty

If you don’t live in Utah and want comprehensive coverage, consider investing in Choice Home Warranty. They offer two plans—Basic and Total—which includes coverage for important home systems and appliances, like your air conditioner, refrigerator, washer, dryer, heating systems, plumbing systems, kitchen appliances, and more.

CHW also has a nice set of add-ons, that includes coverage for roof leaks—something that’s absent from Elevate Home Warranty’s plans.
