Our Take on Liberty Home Guard

We gave Liberty Home Guard (LHG) 4.5 out of 5 stars based on our in-house review standards. We determined it has the best customer ratings of all our top providers given its 4-plus star ratings out of 5 on the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Best Company, and Trustpilot. Its customer satisfaction, low service fees, and affordable protection plans make it a worthy investment for homeowners. LHG also provides peace of mind with its 60-day workmanship guarantee on repairs—double the industry standard of 30 days.

Where LHG falls short is in its coverage limits. The company pairs most covered items with a $2,000 limit, which is low compared to other home warranty companies. LHG also doesn’t reveal its service call fee when you request a quote. Our team had to call a representative to determine LHG’s service fee cost range.

However, Liberty Home Guard provides stellar customer service based on customer reviews we read and our own experience. It also offers an extensive list of additional coverage options. While not perfect, LHG provides solid value for your home protection needs.

Liberty Home Guard Coverage Caps and Exclusions

After reading Liberty Home Guard’s sample contract, we found it provides a $2,000 coverage cap for all major appliances and most home systems. However, it limits coverage for electrical and plumbing systems to $250 within the first 90 days of coverage. LHG increases this limit to $500 after 90 days. Liberty Home Guard also provides a $500 coverage cap for each add-on.

Liberty Home Guard has many standard exclusions other home warranty companies also list in their fine print. For example, LHG doesn’t cover systems and appliances located on commercial property. It also excludes coverage for items with preexisting conditions, damage caused by mold or improper installation, tampered items, and more. The company’s sample contract specifies that it may require complete maintenance records for your systems and appliances when you file a claim.

You can read LHG’s sample contract for more information on the company’s exact terms and exclusions.

Liberty Home Guard Pricing

Liberty Home Guard pricing will vary depending on where you live, the plan you choose, and the optional coverage you select. According to the representative we spoke with, you don’t need a home inspection before obtaining coverage.

When our team requested pricing for a home in Frewsburg, New York, these were the estimates we received:

  • Appliance Guard: $49.99 per month
  • System Guard: $54.99 per month
  • Total Home Guard: $59.99 per month

In addition to each plan’s monthly premium, Liberty Home Guard customers must pay a per-claim service call fee. The service call fee is a payment the contractor receives when they come to your home to repair or replace your broken item. Liberty Home Guard doesn’t let you choose your service fee like some companies do. However, it offers a service call fee range of $65–$125 per claim. Your service call fee will depend on the plan you select and your home’s location.

Liberty Home Guard Reviews

Liberty Home Guard has been in business since 2017 and holds an A rating* from the BBB. It also garnered 4.5 out of 5 stars from more than 250 BBB customer reviews. Many customer reviews we read said LHG promptly resolves claims. Customers also appreciate the professionalism of LHG’s in-network service providers.

Some customers dislike LHG’s reimbursement amounts, with several reviews stating the company paid less than the repair’s worth.

Here are several positive reviews we found for Liberty Home Guard:

“I’ve had two claims with Liberty Home Guard. The service has been prompt & excellent. The replacement appliance arrived, followed by a tech who installed it very professionally. The second claim was also promptly assigned to another technician, who arrived on schedule and assessed the problem in 15 minutes. Problem solved! Liberty Home Guard warranty saved me time & money.” — Laura M., Sept. 9, 2023, on BBB

“I called Liberty Home Guard to discuss an open invoice that was pending to be paid. The representative I spoke with was very professional and very helpful. He was quick and efficient in helping me to get this invoice paid. He deserves a raise!! — Lazaro R., Sept. 20, 2023, on Trustpilot

“I can’t thank Liberty Home Guard enough for their swift and efficient kitchen response when my oven broke two days before a family event I was due to host. Liberty’s representative initially took over the claim and came through when he said they would do their best to get me a technician immediately. That same evening, an oven technician was at my doorstep. Not only did he get my oven working again, but he also proactively replaced an exhaust fan we had in the kitchen. He was on top of everything. Thanks to Liberty Home Guard’s reliable service, I now enjoy a perfectly working oven and a clean, odor-free kitchen. Couldn’t recommend them more.” — Darcy E., Sept. 16, 2023, on Best Company

Here are a few negative customer reviews we found for Liberty Home Guard:

“I’ve been paying their high premiums for years, and they would not cover my air conditioning system when it went out. They wanted maintenance records and would not cover my issue since I didn’t keep my records.” — Rick C., Sept. 9, 2023, on BBB

“I paid for a one-year home warranty policy, and they told me they cover everything. When my air conditioning blower motor broke, they said it was under the manufacturer’s warranty. Liberty only paid half of the labor because the part is under warranty.” — Omar S., Sept. 14, 2023, on Trustpilot

“By far, the worst company I’ve encountered regarding home warranty. I had them for three months and canceled my plan after finding them useless. I  waited another month, and they still haven’t refunded me what they promised me. Don’t bother to reach out.” — Maya M., Aug. 30, 2023, on Best Company

Alongside customer reviews, we recommend reading LHG’s sample contract to confirm it covers your needs. We sourced an expert to get his take on the importance of reading a company’s sample contract. Timothy Meenan, who serves as executive director and general counsel for the Service Contract Industry Council, also recommends reading a home warranty company’s contract before you sign up. He specifically suggests that you look at a company’s exclusions so you don’t purchase a plan that doesn’t work for you.

Note: Businesses pay the BBB for accreditation and are not individually evaluated or endorsed by the BBB. A company’s rating is based on BBB customer complaints and other company information—not customer reviews.

Our Conclusion

Our team gives Liberty Home Guard a 4.5 out of 5 stars based on our review standards. Although the company has only been in business for a few years, it has received positive feedback from reviewers on BBB, praising its customer service, and it provides comprehensive coverage at an affordable price. We recommend reviewing the sample contract thoroughly to confirm your understanding of exclusions, coverage caps, and limitations.

LHG also launched a new survey module in August 2020 that allows customers and technicians to send feedback directly to its executive team. This survey intends to help the company fine-tune its operations and address issues efficiently.
