I hired someone to stain a new redwood deck, and just found out he used an oil-based product meant for indoor use only. (Minwax Wood Finish) After getting over my astonishment and anger, I now need to figure out how to protect my deck.
I live in an area with a lot of fog and rain, so I need something with strong protection against water and mildew, along with UV protection.
Cabot products seem to get the best reviews, but I'm afraid anything I apply now won't penetrate because of what's been applied already. Is it possible to strip an oil-based product that's penetrated into the wood? Or do I need to let it weather off for a season? Or lay down another sealer on top? Any suggestions would be welcome.
