midcentury entry lockset

The lockset on the front door of my 1962 home is set at 5" on center from the edge of the door. This is not typical of new door hardware, however I would like to maintain this feature when replacing it. Does anyone know where to locate this type of entry lockset?

Re: midcentury entry lockset

A 5" backset really isn't that unusual. You can buy a latch with a 5" backset that will fit many styles of lockset, but they are all specific to the particular brand & model of the lock.

A good commercial hardware supplier or locksmith may have it in stock, but any home center or hardware store should be able to order it for you. You can also order online, of course.
