indoor chimney no longer in use - questions for cleaning/ and heat loss.

what would you do if you were me?
upgraded heating to condensing/navien - direct vent out.
chimney no longer used.
removed wall in 3rd floor.
chimney exposed.

currently planning to plug holes with simple $12 fluestops, and just somehow get on roof to cap the no longer used
are decorative fluestops enough to prevent heat loss? not really pumped about the 'smear of concrete' solution either.
chimney to prevent heat loss.

here's why i am posting.
chimney is ugly and dirty.
i have brand new floors, and fear using acids indoors.
i would prefer 'clean bricks and mortar'
but if it's too hard to 'clean', i may just paint chimney a solid color. (all white, for example)
