1955 interior Door Knobs

My hall, closet and bathroom doors are unusual because they do not have Round holes where the door knob goes. Instead, they have a notch cut out of the door and this strange doorknob kit is installed. Does anyone know what I am talking about and where I can find replacements??

My doors are hung with just Two hinges like yesteryear, and it would be really expensive to replace them with new pre-hung doors. I need help.

Your description is not very clear and you provide no pictures. I am wondering if you are referring to a lock-set. You might try http://vandykes.com and look at their door hardware selection.

Interior doors usually have two hinges also known as one pair. Exterior doors typically have three hinges AKA one and one half pair.
You may have knob and spindle sets with tubular latches. If there is an approximately three inch or taller metal faceplate on the edge of the door, it would be a mortise lockset commonly referred to as a skeleton key lock.
The availability of replacements will depend on which type you have.
