New Products to Keep You Warm, Dry, and Safe
Here are products displayed at the '06 International Builders Show. These are aimed at comfort and safety with style.
Beach Sheet Metal Co. displayed a gleaming array of copper creations on a full-sized roof—everything from dormers, cupolas, gutters, chimney caps, finials, and the like. Copper's becoming like stainless steel for your roof.
Custom door maker Designer Doors showed a copper-clad garage door. A copper composite from Alcoa Architectural Products is wrapped around wood.
Henkel, an adhesives company, built a cutaway of a wall to show how its line of "green" low-solvent and no-solvent sealants and adhesives (and its expanding foam) stops air infiltration and saves energy without polluting the air.
This cantilevered range hood from Best By Broan Concept has a unique asymmetrical stainless-steel-and-glass design for both island and wall configurations. You can choose either a 1,000-cubic-feet-per-minute (CFM) internal blower or a 280- to 1,500-CFM external blower (both with variable speeds) to suck air through grilles in the bottom and side of the hood. Halogen lights illuminate the cooking area. It's expected to ship this fall.
Packaging giant Pactiv Corp. wrapped the show's technology-demonstration house in GreenGuard RainDrop, Pactiv's woven housewrap. RainDrop's designed to divert water via myriad channels to the base of exterior walls. The goal is to get water vapor out of wall cavities.
In response to the latest California earthquake codes, lumber giant Weyerhaeuser is combining its durable, oriented-strand boards (a type of engineered lumber) with steel re-enforced corners to form modular shear wall panels that bolt to foundation. The panels are designed to resist the shearing forces of some severe earthquakes.
