Our house has white vinyl siding. Some areas are covered with pinhead-size black dots that I've
been told are mold spores. I've tried all sorts of household cleaning
products to remove them, but with no luck. What should I do?

Tom Silva replies: Sounds like mildew to me. It grows on
my vinyl-sided house, too, from time to time. I just mix a cup of bleach
into a gallon of water and apply it to the areas with a pump sprayer.
After letting it sit for 5 minutes or so, I rinse it off. Plants don't
much like bleach, but you can protect them by spraying their leaves with
clear water before and after you treat the house. If that doesn't solve
your problem, it's not mildew on your siding. Could it be overspray from
someone who was painting nearby?
