Charlie Silva travels to Springfield, Massachusetts, to visit a millwork factory where window trim is custom-made to order—painted and ready for installation. There, he meets manufacturer Doug Bell, who walks him through the process from raw material to finished trim.
Back at the house, Charlie puts the factory-made pieces to work, installing the new window trim on site. Outside, Charlie teams up with Jenn Nawada to relocate a large rhododendron from the front yard to the backyard.
As exterior work continues, Tom Silva explains the importance of installing the rain-screen system behind the clapboard siding. Spacers create an air gap that allows moisture to dry, helping prevent rot, while a durable bug screen at the base of the wall keeps pests out without restricting airflow.
With the new addition complete, attention turns to rebuilding the back deck. Charlie and Tom work together to install the edge boards.
Inside the house, Heath Eastman sets up a mock-up of the new kitchen layout, giving the homeowners a sense of how the space will function while also helping him plan the electrical rough-in. He then begins running wiring and placing receptacles.
Back outside, Kevin O’Connor joins Charlie on the deck, where they use a tongue-and-groove system to complete the composite decking.
Meanwhile, with the front planting beds cleared, Jenn and homeowner Patrick develop a new landscape plan based on Patrick’s wish list. Together, they plant evergreens that will anchor the redesigned yard.
