Kevin O’Connor tours the house to check on progress and share new scope changes from homeowners Liz and Patrick, who’ve decided to replace the windows and remove the aluminum siding.
Inside, Charlie Silva meets with abatement specialist Ron Peik, who confirms asbestos on ducts behind a recently demolished wall. Ron’s crew steps in to safely remove the hazardous material.
Later, Kevin joins Charlie to strip the aluminum siding, working from the top down and loading the scrap into a specialized dumpster bound for recycling.
Curious about the process, Kevin visits the recycling facility, where metal buyer Anthony Mastrangelo walks him through what happens once the aluminum arrives on site.
Back at the house, Kevin, Charlie, and Tom Silva prepare for a major structural upgrade on the first floor. To open the space between the kitchen and the future living room, a steel beam must be installed to compensate for the removal of a load-bearing wall. To do this, the beam is craned through a rear window. The beam, which weighs 89 pounds and is over 24 feet long, will run from the back to the center of the house and will sit on steel posts. Once through the window, the beam is carefully set in place with the help of a metalworks crew.
