The team travels to Needham, Massachusetts, to kick off their next project with Charlie Silva. Kevin O’Connor and Tom Silva meet homeowners Liz and Patrick in their 1896 Victorian home, where the couple shares their plans to modernize the space for their family. At the top of their wish list: an updated kitchen and bathrooms made possible by a new rear addition that will allow them to reconfigure the layout to better suit their needs.
Kevin tours the first floor with Liz, who explains their vision for a more open and cohesive living space. The plan includes removing a center chimney, knocking down the wall between the kitchen and the future living room, and adding an island that will flow seamlessly between the two rooms.
Outside, Tom and Patrick run into Jenn Nawada, and Patrick shares his goal of reducing exterior maintenance and creating more open space for their kids to play. To make room for the addition, the existing brick walkway must be removed, but Jenn reassures them they can still create a backyard brick patio. Tom inspects the original shingles under the aluminum siding.
Meanwhile, Kevin heads upstairs with Liz to discuss changes to the bedrooms and one existing bathroom.
In the basement, Richard Trethewey surprises everyone with good news: the home’s heating and cooling system is in solid shape, allowing the homeowners to save money by keeping it mostly intact. However, the third floor will need added insulation to help the attic air handler run more efficiently.
With the walkthrough complete, the team gets right to work. Jenn joins mason Mark McCullough and the homeowners’ son Brendan to carefully remove the brick walkway.
Once the path is cleared, Charlie and Tommy jump in to remove the existing deck, officially making way for the new addition and transformation ahead.
