Most business owners reach a point where they’d rather pass off the dirty work to their employees. While Roger Cook could’ve easily done so, he stayed in the trenches with his employees—literally. Roger was often found soaked in sweat, rain, or mud, happily working until the job was done.
And done right.
From the time he first appeared on an episode of This Old House in 1988 up until he was unable to work anymore, he believed in doing things the right way, the way they should be done. Whether he was planting a tree or constructing a patio, every step of the process—whether planting a tree or pruning a flower—was thought out and handled correctly, ensuring the homeowner, school, or community organization loved the finished product.
All of these small details mattered to Roger. It wasn’t just because he loved his work, but also because he had a real passion for nature. Every plant and animal in the natural world excited Roger, and he spent as much time surrounded by them as possible. With a degree in wildlife, a passion for fishing, and a lifelong passion for creating beautiful, functional landscapes.
