Roger Cook was always a hard worker. He was never afraid to show up early or stay late. The team remembers times when he would work for 10 hours to prepare the site for a two-minute segment. Roger had a reputation for showing up, taking the wheel, and getting the job done. He worked tirelessly for his family, but he also simply loved what he did.
But it wasn’t all hard work for Roger. He loved what he did, but he also loved teaching others. His employees remember getting their first shot at working with Roger, often before they were even old enough to drive. He’d pick them up, take them to the job site, and show them how to do their jobs correctly. All it would typically cost them was a cup of coffee.
He brought that same love of teaching to the show. Over countless episodes, you’ll see Roger teaching small children and schools how to build sandboxes and gardens or to enrich the community with pollinator gardens and wildlife habitats. A walking encyclopedia of plant, wildlife, and landscaping knowledge, he always had helpful information to share.
