First American (FAHW) offers two coverage plans and has been a leader in the home warranty industry for over 35 years. What distinguishes it from other home warranty companies is its First Class Upgrade optional coverage, which covers systems and appliances if they were improperly installed, maintained, or modified.
First American may be a good choice for people who own an older home and are unsure about their system and appliance health. It may not be the best option if you own a new home with brand new appliances and systems that are covered under a manufacturer’s warranty.

- American Home Guard had very negative customer reviews on its Better Business Bureau (BBB) page. In 2017, the BBB identified a pattern of complaints against the company. American Home Guard never resolved the underlying problems that upset customers.
