Subfloor over Subfloor?

My house was built in 1940 and I have 3/4" hardwood on top a 1 x 6 diagonal board subfloor. The hardword is in bad shape and I am replacing with 13mm laminate. The underlayment I am using is 2mm. So, with the laminate (13mm) and the underlayment (2mm) I have total 15mm. That leave about 3/16" difference from the 3/4" wood floor. Can I put a 3/16" plywood over the current subfloor to increase the total laminate, underlayment, and plywood to 3/4"? If I can, what is the suggested type of plywood I should use?
