Squeaky floor

Hi ,
Can you buy a tool that will locate the joists under carpet so i can drive screws to stop squeak???

Go to Rockler and get a "Little Wizard" metal detector. The subfloor is generally nailed or screwed to the studs. Locate several of the nails, this shoud give you a line that follows the studs.

Rather than driving screws through the carpet, a better way to do it is to pull up the carpet & then you can see where the nails in the subfloor are & you can install screws.

Ed,
If you only have a couple of spots that squeak it's easier to use a Squeek-No-More-Carpet-Kit than pulling up carpet and getting the proper tools to reinstall it.
