Prep Cement Board for paint?

I am redoing a bathroom that was covered in tile, but would like the parts of wall that are not the bath/shower area to be painted, not tiled again. All of the walls are cement board (and in good shape after removing the tile) and I'm wondering what product I can use to skim coat the cement board to create a smooth paintable surface?

Thanks!!

Elise,

Remove it, you will never get it smooth enough. There are very few folks that can create a smooth pure horse hair plaster wall. Replace it with a moisture resistant sheetrock, or there are some higher quality coated sheetrock products on the market. Prime the sheetrock with giid quality oil basd primer and paint.

Use a product called Master of Plaster & you can get it smooth it is easer to work with than the old time plaster & also easer than Joint compound.
