Post and beam subfloor

I have a post and beam 1981 home. I'm in the process of remodeling a 2nd floor bathroom and need to run a drain line under the floor. The existing drain was run above the subfloor to a tub that was resting on a 5-inch race platform. Needless to say I don't want to shower an additional 5 in off the floor where it can be dangerous getting in and out.

looking at where the current Drain and Plumbing come through the floor it looks like the flooring is actually 3 to 4 inch tongue and groove board. I was expecting plywood and joists but it looks like the thick boards are the flooring and structure, I can't see any joists under the floor.

My question is can I remove this flooring so I can run my Plumbing lines? Is it safe? Should should I make precise cuts where I need to? I have to run about 6 feet of drain and water lines.
