Plantation shutter on sliding windows

I love the look of plantation shutters. I currently have an aluminum extruded sliding windows. Can I install an outside mounted plantation shutter on top of the aluminum windows given that the window frames are 3" flush mounted to concrete walls? Am I going to have to drill through the aluminum frame and concrete wall? or should I custom order a shutter with a frame that is bigger and has a grove to accommodate the frame?
