HOw do you attach old decorative plaster molding to a lath and plaster wall?

also, how do I find someone who knows how to do this? I found beautiful old molding but don't know how to attach it without the walls splitting apart and cracking. This house is in Sonoma County of California.

Yes it can be done.
To install salvaged cornice would exceed the cost of having new cornice run in place.
Also it would require support on the ceiling and wall to carry the extra weight most ceiling and wall cornice would start at about 5 lbs. per running foot.
You would need mechanical and adhesive attachment.
Try to find a plastering company in your area that does restoration plaster work.
Than contact this company.
