HELP!!!!!!! BROKEN GLASS, NAILS, BATTERIES, DEBRIS FILLED YARD!

I have been searching the internet for weeks and can not find ANY HELP or solutions to this issue. I moved into a rental home 8/1/2017 and I knew there had been a fire in this home and it was remodeled. I had seen broken glass in the front flower bed area and promised it would be cleaned out. Well it never happened, and they ran short on time. Once again, promised it would be cleaned up. I have been promised again and again, and everyday my life revolves around nothing but pulling glass out of the yard. When it rains more and more appears. Yesterday I found a piece bigger than my hand. This is all window glass.

The biggest problem: The back yard! Covered in ground cover planted is a yard full of all sort of glass and its not window glass, its every sort of glass, christmas ornaments shattered, batteries, 6 inch nails, broken dishes, every color of broken glass in every size from micro small to huge shards.

I have service dogs and my life revolves around my dogs and there is no safe place. This place is a disaster zone due to the yard. Once again when it rains more appears. I found out that when the fire happened, not disclosed to me there was a hoarder in here and they pulled out 8 dumpsters of junk out of the backyard and basement door that leads into the yard. The hoarder lived here 15 years. THis is down in the dirt not just on the surface.

We are also in a housing shortage here and I can't even find a place to move. This has been giving me a nervous breakdown. Huge issues with landlord fixing and I had a few bids of 1300 to take out dirt and add new dirt. The landlord only will pay 400 towards some loader work to take out some dirt. I'm beside myself. I'm not even sure if I should keep unpacking. I can't find a solution to make a safe area for my dogs. Sod, Turf, artificial surf, glass can come back up through it. Even if I fence off an area.
I can't believe there is not any info online.

Re: HELP!!!!!!! BROKEN GLASS, NAILS, BATTERIES, DEBRIS FILLED...

I have tons of videos and photos. I just am at a loss at what to do to make a safe area for my dogs and I. The backyard has a flat area under a huge tree and the rest goes down hill. Its just so sad after paying 1000 rent and then 1200 in deposits to move in..Its a nightmare.

Hi Yvette, I wish I had some good advice for you, but I really don't. The truth is, unless something happens (your dog gets injured) and you're willing to sue... there's really nothing you can do. It's his house, and you're renting it... so even if he had it in writing that he'd clean up the glass, the only thing you can do is try to sue to get some of your rent money back in small claims court. All of these options end with you being forced to move out.

My advice... try to negotiate with the landlord... tell him you'll take the $400, and then you'll pick up the glass whenever you see it, and then you'll stop complaining about it to him. Everyone ends up happy. I mean that seriously... it might work, and you'll get something out of it. Just pick it up when you do see it.
