casement window screens

In Episode 26 of the Essex Project, Tom is working on an interior screen for the signature casement window. The screen is attached to a wood frame that slides into the screen window sash. How is this wood frame constructed, specifically with respect to the corner joints, and what material do you recommend for this frame?

Re: casement window screens

The wood frame made of particle board and it is a good material for making frame.

Re: casement window screens

IIRC, half-lap joints are usual for this kind of thing because they give a wide gluing surface, but a pegged saddle-joint would be more traditional. Alternately construct similar to a panel-door with shaped rabbets and tongues, then use the rabbet for holding the screen spline. I wouldn't use particle board or MDF here because of possible window condensation moisture issues.
