Broken window weight

After restoring my old doble hung window, I finally removed the weights.  I found one was broken.  Any ideas on how to remove the lost piece in the casement.  The broken weight had previously repaire with wire so I believe the other section is still there.

How did you remove the window weights if you did not open the access panel into the frame? What is your defination of "restoring". I took my windows out of the frame. That is rather odd that one of the iron weights was broken. If you mean a part of the iron weight is still in the pocket, then you may leave it in there. Unless you have already added another weight to the window pocket and it is hitting the part of the old weight.

Please clarify.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I had removed the sash from the casement and rebuilt them. This required stripping the old paint off, repairing the rotted portions with Abatron products and repainting. I got to the weights through the access door below the parting stop.  One of the weights was broken in half and had been repaired with bailing wire. I wonder if this was an original fix when the house was built.  The house was built in 1893.

It looks like whoever put the wt in made a fix first.  The other part is in the casement

Jim,

That weight has been wet for a long time.
