Black Widows

Is there an effective pest control for black widows?

The regular Raid stuff can't kill them. This year they are bigger, with a lot more poison in their tummies.

I hunt them at dusk, when they are more active and come out of hiding. I use 2 pieces of 2x4, as a hammer and a hard plate, to smash them dead.

But, does anyone know an easier and safer solution?

I suspect the regular "raid stuff" kills them, but just doesn't drop them on the spot. I know ortho makes a spray that is called spider killer.
I also spray Yard Guard or Cutter backyard control at spiders that build webs where I walk the dog at night. It's a fogger spray that has a pretty good reach.
PS. I have nothing against spiders that stay out of my house or where I walk. We don't have black widows around me, but spider bites often get infected no matter what kind they are.

ed21, I'll try Cutter and see if there's a change.

MLB, Around here, black widows are everywhere, even in the "city" - I guess it's downtown.

A REAL man would get his woman to come out and squish them for him! :p;)

Get yourself some chickens, they suck those little bastards up like they were candy, their egg sacks too!

If I get chickens which eat black widows, venom and all, can I send you their eggs?

Certainly, doesn't seem to hurt the chickens and the eggs are tasty.

OK, last night I went out with my son, he found the black widows, held the flashlight and I smashed them with a pair of sandals. We killed about 10. Still haven't got that Cutter pesticide.

Last night we raided the black widows again, this time we killed 12 and smashed 3 egg balls (I think that's the way to call them).

Tonight I didn't see any new ones. Black widows on notice.

It's been over a week, and no black widows showed up.

If that's what it takes to get rid of them, then that's what we're going to do on a weekly basis. No need for chemicals.

You need to get yourself a nice little Chianti and then fry those little bastards up in a pan. Good eat'n right there! :p:D
