pre-emergent crabgrass control

In a recent broadcast of Ask This Old House the home owner was advised to reseed with a mixture of seed, fertilizer and a pre-emergent crab grass chemical that did not prevent the growth of normal lawn grass. This crab grass specific chemical was not identified. My local garden centers have not heard of this item?

Re: pre-emergent crabgrass control

I just sent this request to ATOH and thought I might also get a response in this forum.

Question:'Ask This Old House' Episode ATH-523

Full Description:

I was just watching an episode of 'Ask This Old House' (airtime 21-Sep-2009 7:30-8:00 pm DIY Channel Episode ATH-523). http://www.diynetwork.com/ask-this-old-house/installing-a-new-radiator-towel-bar-warmerhow-to-use-hand-planescontrolling-crabgrass/index.html

Roger Cook described a product but I only heard its name which sounded like Tupacent . Apparently this product can be used in the spring to inhibit crabgrass but it doesn't affect grass seed germination? I can't seem to find anymore info on it. Can you confirm the spelling of this product and/or provide more information?

Great show BTW!

Thanks in advance,
