Can 90-93% efficiency gas furnace be vented vertically?
owkone

The current gas furnace is 80% efficiency. Is it possible to install a high efficiency furnace but still vent it vertically through the roof through the existing vent? The furnace is in the basement of a two story house. There are two many windows to vent it sideways and be within code.

Your existing vent is stainless steel (sheet metal). Your new furnace requires PVC vent.

Get estimates from a/c contractors if you find the change over too difficult.

You need to read the specs for you particular furnace it will tell you what can be done and what cant. some can be vented through stainless if it is properly sized some can be vented vertically with pvc or a flexible plastic liner but again that will vary from furnace to furnace read the specs or your furnace installer should be able to tell you what is possible
