Q&A

Q: Last year I purchased a wonderful fiberglass door, but my husband painted it with old paint and the result is blotchy and looks terrible. How can we remove the paint and then repaint the door so it looks the way it should?

Tips

Finishing nails cause less splitting and go in easier when they're lubricated with paraffin or butcher's wax. To create a wax reservoir, drill out the base of a wood hammer handle with a 3/8-in.-wide x 1-in.-deep hole and fill it with wax. Dip the nails in just before you drive them.
