Vessel sink installation

I am trying to install a porcelain vessel sink and the popup drain threads do not seem to go all the way through the counter top so I can put the lock nut on the drain. Am I doing something wrong? It does not seem to be that difficult but I just cannot seem to figure it out.

I appreciate any advice you could offer.

Re: Vessel sink installation

You can not use a standard lav drain for a vessel sink if it is being installed on top of the counter. There is a drain assembly made for that purpose. Make a trip to your local plumbing supply they should be able to supply you with the proper one. Don't go to the big box stores as the don't have a clue.
