Insane water valves on Ask This Old House!

Do you see something wrong with these water valves installed by Tom Silva on Ask This Old House?

How could they be turned?

Even if one were to force one pipe up and one pipe down to get a little more clearance (a bad idea), it still would be very difficult to turn a valve.

Why would ATOH present this work as if it's acceptable?

LOL ---- those are just for looks ---- you have to run downstairs to the main shutoff.

Sure looks neat though.
As you are turning off the hot you also turning off the cold as well.
Good Grief, Charlie Brown....

Howdy, using a washing machine supply single shut off valve would of been much easier.

I agree with Tim, the single lever type that shuts both hot and cold are the best that way it's easier to shut them off when not in use.:D
