How can I tell what material my water service line is made of?
tallbob

Hi -

In our neighborhood, homes were built with polybutylene (blue max) pipe used in service lines. I'm the 5th owner of the home and don't know if anyone prior to me had the service line replaced. Since PB pipe has such a nasty tendency to rupture, I'd like to get it replaced preemptively if possible, if it hasn't been replaced already. The pipe coming through the wall of the foundation is copper, and all the pipe out at the meter is copper as well, but I don't know what lies between the two.

Does anyone know if there's a way to tell if there is PB used along the line, short of digging up the yard to find out?

Thanks!

Can you take a photo and post it. take several has high def as possible. Failing that call a contractor that specializes in replacing water service and ask him to look.

BY the way you should know that there is a class action law suit
