crawl space insulation/ floor joists

Bought a house with insulation between the floor joists in the crawl space. I put down a vapor barrier. My question is, when they put the insulation between the joists they used a fiberglass with the paper side (vapor barrier) up against the sub floor for the first, this i believe is correct, on the second layer they used the same rolls of insulation, but instead of unfaced, they put the face side down towards the floor. My question is, do I need to remove the paper from the second layer (facing down) or can i take a razor knife and just score the paper to let it breath. thanks for the help. Richard Bunting P.S. I live in columbia, SC
