Newton GenNEXT | A House for the Next Generation
Coming up on this episode of This Old House
Kevin, Norm, Roger, Richard and Tommy are back in the suburb of Newton, MA at a house for three generations.
This project is dedicated to the Generation Next Initiative–working with apprentices, schools, and non-profits to promote the building trades in the younger generation.
Mike Rowe joins the crew at the house and tells them about the Mike Rowe Works Foundation.
Kevin and Tommy meet the family. Liz grew up in the house and it was left to her when her mother died. Now Liz and her husband, Joe, plan to be the next generation in the house. But they need to make some modifications so that they can invite Joe’s parents to live with them for part of the year.
Liz and Joe give Kevin and Tom tours of the first floor.
Norm goes upstairs to check out the plans for the second floor.
Down in the basement, Richard shows Mike Rowe the current air handler and talks about how the future mechanical system may open the room up for more space.
Outside, Roger and Kevin take a walk around the property to see what stays and what goes, and then they join up with the rest of the guys on the front porch to close the show.
