James Dose is one of Paula’s general contractors helping restore her home in East Asheville, but construction isn’t his only passion. Long before Hurricane Helene, James was also a singer-songwriter, using music as a creative outlet. When devastation hit his community, he turned to art to process and heal. His song “Cavalry” was born from that experience, and in the powerful music video, James stands in the Swannanoa River—the same river that, along with the French Broad, swelled and flooded just a year earlier, devastating the area. Through his music, James shows how creativity can rise from tragedy and help tell the story of a community rebuilding.
