This Old House expert Jenn Largesse shares a checklist for everything you need to keep your outdoor spaces clean this fall.
Pro Tip: Roger Cook, TOH landscape contractor, shares his approach to fall leaf clearing: “The trick to making quick work of leaf-clearing is to spend the least amount of energy moving everything around.”
Choosing a Leaf Rake: When it comes to rakes, TOH landscape expert Roger Cook looks for a large fan head with lightweight plastic tines, which clog less than bendable steel and breakable bamboo tines. However, TOH’s lawn care experts also recommend starting out with a metal-tined rake because it moves wet leaves, pine cones, and even rocks more effectively than the plastic-tined variety. A fiberglass handle accommodates different body heights and can withstand the force required to gather wet material.
