Erie Home, also known as Erie Roofing, Erie Metal Roofing, or Erie Basement Solutions, is a home remodeling company focusing largely on roof replacements. It is best known for its metal roofs, which are made from stone-coated steel stamped to resemble traditional roofing materials.

For this review, we’ve sifted through hundreds of customer reviews and the company’s website to round up everything you need to know about Erie Home. One of our team members also went on a ride-along with an Erie salesperson to get insider knowledge on what homeowners need to know going into a project.

Erie Roofing
4.7

  • Provides a comprehensive limited lifetime warranty on its metal roofs

Cons

Erie Home has been in the home remodeling business since 1976. The company supplies, sells, and installs metal roofing products. It offers flexible financing options, lifetime transferable warranties, and no-obligation quotes.

In addition to several decades of experience, Erie claims to have serviced more than 100,000 customers, including 40,000 repeat customers.

Erie operates in 35 states across the eastern, southern, and midwestern United States. Below we have listed each city in which Erie has a physical address. The company has more than one location in some states, including its home state of Ohio, where it has five offices.

What Services Does Erie Home Offer?

Erie Home does business under several names. Depending on which landing page you find, you might see the company refer to itself as Erie Construction, Erie Metal Roofs, or Erie. On its main website, ErieHome.com, the company lists roofing as its top category.

Roofing

Erie specializes in ultra-durable types of roofing materials like stone-coated steel roofing. Homeowners have the following three options to choose from:

  • Architectural metal shingles: These metal shingles are stamped to look like dimensional asphalt shingles but last three times as long. They come in a broad array of colors that resist UV fading.
  • Metal Spanish tile: These panels are stamped to mimic Spanish-style clay barrel tiles. However, the nonporous metal stands up to extreme weather conditions much better than clay tiles, which can absorb moisture, crack, and break.
  • Metal shake roofing: This type of roofing provides the appearance of wood shakes without the susceptibility to rot, fire, and weather damage. Metal shake roofing is also much easier to maintain than wood shake roofing.

Erie Home backs all its roofing materials and workmanship with a limited lifetime warranty of up to 50 years, which is among the best in the industry. Erie metal roofing systems can withstand hail and 120-mph winds. They resist freezing, thawing, cracking, burning, curling, splitting, and other issues from extreme weather due to their Class 4 impact resistance.

One thing that impressed us when we observed an in-home consultation was how thorough the company was when conducting a roofing assessment and engaging the homeowner. You’ll need to be prepared to have a sales rep walk around your entire property and access any attic space. Erie was fully transparent about what each roofing option would look like, and the representative even showed the homeowner the blueprints from the company’s satellite tools.

Other Services

Erie Home offers a few other services, though availability may vary by location. The contact form on the company’s website allows customers to select the products about which they would like information. The options listed there are siding, roofing, and free home inspection.

The contact forms for individual locations provide even more options. Here’s a complete list of what we found by looking at different locations:

  • Air quality control
  • Basements
  • Foundations
  • Free home inspection

Erie’s website does not provide much information about these other services. However, its landing page for the Midwest does list a few specific products beyond metal shingle roofs, such as basement waterproofing and air quality control.

How Much Does Erie Home Roofing Cost?

The cost of a major home improvement project, such as a roof replacement or window installation, will vary significantly based on several factors. Erie does not post pricing information on its website, nor does it offer instant ballpark estimates.

What are Erie’s Average Roofing Costs?

In a 2018 blog post, the company lists the average installation costs for common types of roofing. This post cites an average cost of $7.50–$12 per square foot for metal roofing. The company notes that while metal roofing costs more than asphalt roof shingles, it can last three times longer.

To calculate prices for a metal roof installation, Erie Home takes into account the metal price, waste removal, shipping, and labor. The size, style, and pitch of the roof will affect the overall cost of metal roofing. Prices may also vary by location.

Can You Get a Free Quotes from Erie Roofing?

To estimate the cost of a new roof, you can request a free quote through Erie’s website. Simply enter your first name, last name, email address, phone number, and ZIP code into the company’s online form and click “Get a Free Quote.” You will then be redirected to a confirmation page with the following message: “Thank you for contacting Erie Home for your home improvement needs. A Customer Service Representative will contact you shortly to follow up with your request.”

When we tested the process, we received a call, text, and email from the Erie Home sales team almost immediately. If you find yourself waiting longer than you’d like, the company does provide a number you can call: 800-536-4200.

While shadowing multiple Erie sales consultations, we found that Erie’s sales rep was up-front about cost and did not shy away from discussing factors that could increase the price. We share this because you can receive a comprehensive, free quote from Erie, but an in-home consultation can take up to three hours.

Does Erie Roofing Offer Financing?

Erie also offers financing options to help homeowners more easily afford its services. The company does not provide details on its website but rather encourages potential customers to fill out a contact form to request more information. Contacting the company directly allows you to get personalized information about the various financing options, including which you might qualify for and what steps you must take to apply. You can also discuss this option during your consultation, as this topic was raised frequently when we observed Erie’s consultation process and the ongoing discounts the company offers to reduce the up-front cost.

What Do Customers Say About Erie Home?

Erie Home’s headquarters is in Toledo, Ohio. On its main Better Business Bureau (BBB) profile, the company is listed as Erie Construction Mid-West, LLC. Erie has been BBB-accredited since 1982 and has a rating of A+ as of May 2023. It also has an average customer rating of 4.69 out of 5 stars across 3,600-plus reviews on the BBB and 4.7 stars across 5,000+ reviews on GuildQuality. However, many Yelp reviews express dissatisfaction with heavy sales tactics and higher-than-average industry quotes.

Here are a few Erie Home reviews customers posted online:

“Hiring Erie to do my roofing project was a great decision. Through the entire process they were friendly and professional. I needed financing to get the work done and they were very helpful finding me what I needed. They completed the roof when they said they would and for exactly the price I was quoted. There weren’t any problems or hidden fees that sprung up during the project. I highly recommend using Erie Home if you’re in need of a new roof.”

Ken May via Trustpilot

Quoted us $209,000 to replace (6,700 sq feet) of hail damaged shingle roofing with a metal roof. Guessed they quickly realized it was way over priced because they said they would do it for $150,000 if we signed the contract today. Also didn’t appreciate them pushing solar during the meeting when it wasn’t something I requested a quote for. Needless to say they didn’t get my business since 2 other companies quoted us $88K and $66K for a 24 gauge metal roof.”

Thomas G. via Yelp

“I found the team from Erie very friendly and easy to work with. Everyone from the salesman, Atlanta Regional Manager, Area Production Manager, Job Site Manager visited us. The material was positioned the afternoon before the job start by a friendly young man who moved the material to the location I needed it to be. The crew arrived the next morning and prepped quickly. The job site manager arrived and he called in extra workers (the next day was forecast to be a heavy rain day) and made good on his promise that the job would be completed in one day. The crew completed the roof and cleaned up (even the upper deck which caught only a small amount of debris.) Almost all of the crew used magnets to insure no nails were left behind after the removal of the old roof… and so far, I have not found any, which I worried about since I have two puppies who like to chew on anything including nails and rocks.”

Patrick M. via BBB

“Original salesperson did good job of showing where our problems were and what needed to be done. Scheduling different than we were advised previously. One-day job turned into two-days. First rain, leak detected, repaired quickly. Two weeks later were still finding occasional nail in yard around house, but content with appearance.”

Stephen Malott via Trustpilot

“The metal shaker shingles are a great enhancement to our house and well satisfied with the appearance. Had to give contractors blankets to cover my new gutters as their ladders were scraping the paint off. Cleanup could have been better as I picked up a fair amount of debris including some nails. Contractors were pleasant and the install looks great. A dumpster was dropped off and after sitting in my drive 3 days after job completion had to call dumpster outfit and request they come and remove.”

Kyle W. via BBB

Is Erie Home Roofing Worth it?

Erie Home has a larger service area than many competitors, stretching down the East Coast and throughout the South and Midwest. The quote process is quick and customizable as well. However, many customers have mentioned dissatisfaction with their roofing jobs, so you may want to look at reviews for your local branch before purchasing.

As always, we recommend gathering quotes from at least three providers. Comparison shopping gives you the peace of mind that comes from knowing you got the best deal. As you weigh your options, compare not only prices but also product quality, customer satisfaction, and warranties.
