Every tradesperson has their own list of go-to tools that they take on every job. When host Kevin O’Connor asked paint expert Mauro Henrique which tools he has to have on every project, Mauro was happy to show them off.
Drop Cloths and Plastic Sheeting
Mauro knows how important protection is when painting a client’s home. He uses canvas drop cloths to protect the floor, collecting potential drips and drops. He also uses plastic sheeting to cover furniture and other items he wants to protect. But Mauro has an important rule: canvas on the floor, plastic on everything else, as plastic drop cloths can be very slippery underfoot.
Rollers, Covers, and Paint Trays
Next are rollers, covers, and paint trays. A standard 9-inch roller makes quick work of walls and ceilings. Roller covers Mauro relies on are typically ⅜- and ¾-inch nap, allowing him to work with flat walls or textured surfaces. Finally, the paint tray has a built-in well for paint storage as well as a textured ramp for rolling and applying the right amount of paint.
Cut Bucket and Brush
Every painter needs a cut bucket and a brush. The cut bucket holds enough paint for cutting in around walls, windows, doors, and other areas, and features a built-in magnet to keep the brush from falling out of the bottom of the bucket. As for the brush, an angled brush is the best option.
Extension Pole
When paint projects involve ceilings, stairways, and tall walls can be hard to reach. To solve it, Mauro uses an extension pole that threads into the roller’s end. For the tallest rooms, he extends the pole’s telescoping section.
Painter’s Tool
Mauro also keeps a handy multi-use painter’s tool in his pocket on every job. These tools have several built-in features, such as a rounded section for removing paint from roller covers, built-in wrenches, scrapers, and more.
