IKEA's Vet-Approved Pet Furniture
Both designers and veterinarians collaborated on these pet-centric (but human-friendly) designs
Though you can’t bring your pets on an IKEA shopping adventure with you (only certified service dogs are allowed in stores), you can now go to Ikea to shop for them. IKEA’s “Lurvig” collection, is “made for our four-legged family members” and includes everything from bowls to beds.
The collection, which premiered in Fall 2017, was designed from a pet’s perspective, say the designers and veterinarians who collaborated on the project. Matching the distinct needs of both dogs and cats with the Ikea’s existing style and furniture (these cozy cat beds fit into the Kallax shelving unit), the Lurvig products are also affordable: framed beds at $30, washable floor cushions starting at $8, and a cat house on legs– the most expensive product in the line so far – at $55 (and only $50 if you opt for no pillow insert).
You can watch pets use all the products as part of IKEA’s YouTube playlist of collections and hear trivia tidbits that factored into the creation of the furniture and products: dogs respond to cuddles better than even lots of “good boy!”s (hence the pet bed), and cats prefer a warmer room temperature than humans (those cozy square beds).
Lurvig products are are available in stores only, but you can view the entire line at ikea.com
