From the Designer: Amy Matthews, owner and designer of the TOH 2021 Modern Barnhouse, describes the vision behind the project: “My overall philosophy for this house is based on the Scandinavian principle of ‘finding the light’—bringing in an abundance of natural light, embracing the outdoors, and combining modern lines with rustic, natural materials.” The home sits on the oldest dairy farm in Minnesota’s Saint Croix River Valley, where a 130-year-old red barn anchors the property alongside vintage outbuildings Matthews plans to renovate.
