When to Plant Tulips?

I live in sunny southern california and would like to plant some tulips but not sure when to plant them, as well as if i plant them now will they come up this season or will they come up next season? or is better to plant one's that have all ready bloomed this season from a nursery and transplant them into my flower bed?. and pro's and con's will be helpful thank you.

Re: When to Plant Tulips?

I have read a few articles on tulip growing in southern CA, and it sounds like you should have already planted them back in December. One article said that you should refrigerate the bulbs 6-8 weeks before planting (to give them a sense of a cold/winter period), then plant in December so they can start blooming in early spring.

Hope that helps.
