kitchen exhaust vent

We recently did a kitchen remodel, including the installation of a microwave/exhaust combo in place of the old exhaust fan. During the very cold weather, we got an ice buildup inside the cabinet where the exhaust vent passes to get to the exterior wall; we reused the same exterior vent hardware. Is there such a thing as an insulated vent unit?

Re: kitchen exhaust vent

Yes or you can add an insulation blanket to it, much like a HWH wrap.

Re: kitchen exhaust vent

I have a house built in 1968 and the kitchen was redone the year before we bought the house in 2012. The upper kitchen cabinets on one exterior wall get so cold we use it to store beverages - that is, we did until they exploded one cold winter night! Is there any way to figure out why it is so cold? it Is close to a stove fan/vent, and there is an exterior vent that we have tried to cover to prevent cold air coming in, but that hasn't' seemed to work. The hood fan does not seem to be cold/doesn't blow cold when turned on. Cupboard is on an exterior wall. -20 tonight!

cold kitchen in Calgary.

Lack of insulation. -20, is that Fahrenheit or Celsius? Leave the cabinet doors open.

Does it really matter? LOL

Yes, lack of insulation in both the wall and the ceiling over those cabinets. Possibly even a gap in the siding/soffit/attic area that is allowing the cold air to circulate around the cabinets.
