Attic Ladder insulation
DaveNJ

Hi all, I'm looking for some recommendations on an insulation product for my attic ladder. It's 21x54 (I believe) and I'm looking to reduce the air flow between my 2nd floor and the attic.

I've seen the products from Battic Door and the Owens corning tent, but looking to see what your collective experiences have been...

Thanks,

Dave

Beuller took the day off. :p

I can't help, as we do not require attic ladder insulation here on the west coast.

I simply used 2 inch rigid foam and built a box around the ladder protrusion into the attic. There is a caulk sealant made especially for foam board. I then cut a lid out of the foam and rabbited out the edges to fit into the foam frame. Foam cuts really clean and easily on a table saw, although it makes a lot of fine foam dust. Anyway, the box seals tightly and helps to control air infiltration from the pull down ladder that does not seal particularly well. It is very light weight and easy to lift out of the way when I go up into the attic.
