YOUR Old House Remodel Contest | Camilla A.
We remodeled a 1949 ranch home, it’s guest house and the yard! My husband and I planned and designed everything and learned a lot along the way. This was our “learn everything”, “try anything home”—it being our first house together. We now rent out our guest home to offset the cost of our remodel. It’s the perfect house for us as a single family home.
This was the exterior of the home when we bought it. We felt like it lacked its mid century character and needed something bold. The white stucco, siding, and red brick was boring and easy.
We did an overhaul on the exterior and the landscaping. By adding more vertical wood siding, a rich privacy screen, windows, landscaping, and the bold dark color—it really brought out it’s mid century character and gave it some life.
When we bought the house, the kitchen was staged and formatted in a dysfunctional and dark manner. There was no light, no counter space, and no storage.
We added sleek black cabinets with quarts counters on either side of the galley space, floor to ceiling pantries around the fridge, cut windows into the hall, and added fun tile, lighting, shelves and wallpaper for texture.
