Q&A

Q: Would it be a good idea to insulate the ceiling of our unheated basement? I'm hoping that would make it easier to heat our living quarters.

—Frances Stout, Hillsdale, N.J.

Tips

If your radiators gurgle, they're not pitched properly. Tuck shims under the legs to move steam toward the pipe for a one-pipe system, or toward the steam trap for a two-pipe system.
