Ask TOH | Rose Transplant, Exterior Sconces

Landscape contractor Roger Cook helps a homeowner temporarily transplant a mature rose bush while exterior work takes place. Then, Roger, along with host Kevin O'Connor, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, and general contractor Tom Silva ask "What Is It?" Afterward, Richard shows Kevin some rookie plumbing mistakes. And, Tom and Kevin replace old outdoor lighting with new fixtures.

Temporarily Transplanting a Rose
Roger temporarily transplants a mature rose bush while exterior work takes place.

Where to find it?
Roger attached the rose bush to a wooden trellis and set the rose and trellis in a large plastic pot with 2x4 supports. Trellises and plastic pots can be purchased at home centers and garden centers.

Roger mixed Rose-tone, an organic rose fertilizer, into his soil mixture. Rose-tone is available at garden centers and is manufactured by Espoma.

What Is It?Richard asks the guys to identify two red metal tools.

Where to find it?
Richard demonstrated the Eureka Cleanout Plug Wrench, a tool designed to open countersunk cleanout plugs. It is manufactured by Pasco Specialty & Manufacturing and available at plumbing supply stores.

Where to find it?
Richard demonstrated using a strap wrench to prevent plier teeth marks on chrome fixtures and the correct way to use a pipe wrench. All of these tools are available at home centers and plumbing supply stores.

Replacing Outdoor Wall Sconces
Tom and Kevin replace old outdoor lighting with new fixtures.

Where to find it?
Tom built mounting blocks out of Azek, a cellular PVC product.

The fixtures that Tom and Kevin installed were the Miners Wall Lantern (model 5850), manufactured by Trans Globe Lighting.
