Host Kevin O'Connor works with painter Mauro Henrique to stain a cedar fence. Then general contractor Tom Silva helps a homeowner install window boxes and landscape contractor Roger Cook helps plant them.

Mauro showed three methods of applying stain to a cedar fence.

Rollers, mini-rollers, and a homeowner spray gun can be purchased at home centers and paint supply stores. The spray gun that Mauro used was the Power Painter Plus with EZ Tilt, manufactured by Wagner.

The airless sprayer is a professional tool that can be rented at some home centers and many paint supply stores.

The stain was Benjamin Moore semi-transparent stain in "Olympus Green."

Window Flower Boxes
Tom helps a homeowner attach cellular PVC window boxes to the front of his house. Then Roger plants the boxes with annuals.

The soil that Roger used in the boxes was Moisture Control Potting Mix, manufactured by Miracle-Gro.

Roger planted the following species in the window boxes:
• Hakonechloa Japanese Forest Grass
• Sweet Potato Vine 'Marguerite'
• Osteospermum hybrids 'Soprano' & 'Peach Symphony'
• Scaevola hybrid 'Whirlwind White'

Back at the barn, Roger showed a few plants that can grow in window boxes during the fall and winter, including:
• Flowering Kale
• Purple Fountain Grass 'Rubrum'
• Boulevard Cypress
• Blue Angel Holly

Roger recommended spraying evergreens with an "anti-desiccant" to prevent them from drying out in winter. The spray he used was Wilt Stop, which is manufactured by .
