Add a Rustic Touch

Want to try out the barn-wood look without sawing and hammering? These thin reclaimed-barn-wood “planks” stick to the wall—or, more precisely, to repositionable Velcro-like strips—for easy installation and relocation.
From $9.95 per square foot; Artis Wall
Pro Tip: For the most authentic barn-wood effect, look for planks that come in random widths and random lengths. On a recent TOH project, Norm Abram and the crew found that staggering the joints with varied board sizes made the finished wall look like “it could be the wall to an old barn.”
Create Privacy

With patterns that can mimic etched glass, this stick-on window treatment adheres with water and lets in light while disguising the view—from indoors or out.
From $24 per square foot; StickPretty
Make an Instant Backsplash

Get the look of mosaics without having to grout. A gel compound adds dimension to stick-on wall decor sheets that interlock for a convincing real-tile look.
From $7.99 per 9.85-square-inch sheet; Smart Tiles
Wood Grain

These slim planks of reclaimed and/or sustainably sourced wood have strips of adhesive along their backs, making them simple to put up nearly anywhere. With stick-on wall decor options ranging from prints to upcycled gym flooring, smaller applications (think headboards or wood art) can really pop.
From $10 per square foot; Stikwood
Accent Tile

Stuck with boring square tile but a reno’s not in your budget? Dress up your kitchen or bath with Tile Tattoos. The decals are completely removable but can stand up to direct spray.
From $18 for a set of 10; StickPretty
Wallpaper

Many homeowners are nostalgic for the look of traditional wallpaper—but not all the steps involved in hanging it. Forget about paste with self-adhesive wall coverings made from woven cloth. You can choose from thousands of patterns or design your own.
$90 per 24-square-foot roll; Spoonflower
Stained Glass

Add color and privacy with adhesive window films that mimic the look of stained glass. Even better, with a whole roll to play with, you can think outside the bath.
$60 per 18″ x 49 ½ roll; Designyourwall
Wall Covering

Fake the appearance of subway tile, shiplap, masonry, and more in minutes. Devine Color offers peel-and-stick wall coverings that have a hint of texture, amping up the trompe l’oeil effect.
From $35 per 27 ½-square-foot roll; Target
Art Tile

Take your stairs to the next level with decals that look like hand-painted art tile. They’re sized to fit stair risers, so simply trim to fit, then peel and stick to make your staircase look top flight.
$21 per 6 ½” x 144″ roll; Wallpops
For the best adhesion on peel-and-stick products, prep the riser surface first. As TOH painting expert Mauro Henrique demonstrates on the show, lightly sanding with 220-grit sandpaper cleans the surface and opens up the grain so adhesives get a strong grip—a step that makes a real difference in how long your decals stay put.
Pro Tip: Chelsea Conrad of One Kings Lane Interior Design notes that decorative stair risers are a smart, low-commitment upgrade: “Stairs can take up significant real estate in a home, and a custom treatment like this brings a tailored, sophisticated finish to an otherwise utilitarian feature. Plus, because you’re dealing with small, discrete areas, even though this project looks ambitious, it’s easily digestible.”
