Brand-new doors, décor, and more—check out these terrific patio transformations
The folks at Simonton Windows & Doors launched the "Party on the Patio" contest to find homeowners with patios in desperate need of perking up. It was not an easy task to sort through the thousands of entries that poured in from across the country. In the end, they hand-picked a trio of winners, from Indianapolis, Fort Worth, and Cleveland, who each received a brand-new Simonton patio door, a complete patio makeover, and $1,000 cash to host a celebratory party. Read on to see the remarkable transformations.
Home-improvement projects are a challenge for Lorna Reardon, a single mom of three in Cleveland. "Our patio door was unsafe and nonfunctional. We had all smashed our fingers in it at some point because it wasn't fitting the track correctly, and it leaked air so badly that I had to cover it with plastic in the winter," Reardon said. "I really wanted to replace that door, but it just wasn't in my budget."
Lorna got her new door—and a whole lot more—when the Simonton crew created a brand-new patio of composite pavers laid in a herringbone pattern. Comfortable furnishings, warm and cozy throws, and a 40-inch square slate-topped steel fire table make this a perfect place for gathering and entertaining, even on the chilliest Ohio evenings.

A generously sized, three-panel patio door creates a seamless connection between the indoors and the newly expanded outdoor living space.

The new Inovo patio door features blinds sealed between the glass panels that can be tilted, raised, and lowered for light and privacy control, and that are virtually maintenance-free, as they will not get dusty or dirty.
"Now, we have an absolutely beautiful sliding door that offers an excellent view of our new patio, so I can keep an eye on the kids," says Lorna.
Texas summers are all about spending time outdoors with family and friends. But for Stephanie Williams, the patio was a far-from-ideal spot to do that.
She wrote: "My patio space is basically nonexistent. The sliding glass door keeps falling off the track. And I would really like a place where my dogs can rest in the shade, so they can enjoy the outdoors more."
Simonton reached out to American Eagle Builders, and they got to work replacing the old, cracked concrete with a much larger, 11ˈx15ˈ textured slab. A custom covered pergola, complete with ceiling fan and gauzy fabric panels, offers respite from the scorching Texas heat. Now, Stephanie's family has a cool and comfortable spot for dining alfresco.

"My old door wasn't working properly, and the glass was not insulated well," Williams said. "I love the new door and how the blinds are built inside the glass panes—there's no more tangling of cords from opening and closing the door." And for additional security, the new door features a multi-point lock system that engages locks at three points along the edge of the sliding panel (compared with the standard dual-point lock).

Stephanie is thrilled with the results. "My family and I are so excited to share the transformation with our friends. We plan on using the patio for more outdoor activities and lots of grilling. I'm really thankful that my family—and my dogs—now have such a wonderful place to relax."

Indianapolis homeowner Courtney Jennings and her husband were busy working on their fixer-upper when she submitted photos of their aged deck and door to the "Party on the Patio" contest. "We were constantly working on the house, doing all of the work ourselves. I entered the contest because I thought it would be nice to have something done fast—and by someone else—for a change!" Jennings laughed.
If your wood deck is still in good condition but looks a little worse for the wear, consider bringing it back to life with a coat of protective paint.
For a family that loves to throw cookouts, this new and improved outdoor space is a dream come true. The spacious composite deck has enough room for two seating areas and will withstand the elements while requiring very little maintenance. The sheer-paneled pergola offers a shady spot for lounging during the day, while a freestanding propane space heater takes the chill off cooler nights.

Comfortable furnishings and bright, lime-colored accents give the lounge space a cheery, welcoming vibe.
"I'm excited to have a safe and gorgeous deck to share with friends and family, and a door that's so easy to open and close," says Courtney. "We can now have a party with plenty of room for my husband to grill and friends to hang out nearby."
