Tiling over linoleum

I am currently removing an old linoleum floor from a bathroom. It is so old that it is spliting in half and the bottom and backing paper are sticking to the floor in some areas while the top design is coming up. I am planning on tiling the floor. Should I worry about removing the remaining backing paper/adhesive and if so how? If not should I use some sort of backer board or self leveling cement or some such product? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Re: Tiling over linoleum

Cementboard would be my choice.

Re: Tiling over linoleum

I agree. Self leveling cement is liable to weaken the glue bond between the subfloor & the backing of the old flooring, causing you a lot of grief.
