Finding a Carpenter

Would you be able to give me suggestions on how to find a carpenter or mason who could show me how to install a trellis on the side of my brick home? I have measured and (partially) laid out the design on the brick, have a hammer drill and a great ladder, and will order the supplies (stainless steel eye hooks, turnbuckles, cable). But, I am not comfortable drilling the holes and installing the eye hooks all by myself so am looking for someone who can help me with this project, and also teach me.

This is a small project so a lot of carpenters/masons may not be interested. I would pay an hourly rate (unless there's a better way?). Also, when I've found some people who do this work, they are handymen who drill into the mortar, not the bricks. So even though this is a relatively small task, I want to get it done right.

I wish there was a way for me to find someone who is retired, likes to teach their craft and is not rushed to get through a job but wants it done nicely. I am in the metro DC area if that helps.

Any groups or other ways to get a referral?

Re: Finding a Carpenter

Try these sources:

- Vocational schools
- Lumber yards and/or masonry yards.
- Advertise "retired mason/carpenter wanted".

Throw darts, one may hit the bull's eye.
